Adam Hailstone & James UreIncreasing the Space Between Stimulus and Response
We’ve all done it; we’ve reacted to our children, spouses, friends, and colleagues. Sometimes its just giving in, when we know we shouldn’t. Sometimes it’s snapping, when we know it won’t help. Sometimes its neglect, when we know procrastination will only bury us deeper. Stephen Covey taught that there is a space between stimulus and response. But how do we increase that space? How do we truly act from a place of intention, purpose, and love? Come discover that space and learn how to increase it, with Adam Hailstone. Adam Hailstone received his BA from a small Liberal Arts school. He has spoken to 1,000’s of people across North America inspiring people to improve their lives and obtain a liberal arts education. It is his life’s mission to help pull people out of life’s ruts and to motivate them to live a meaningful life. Adam spent much of his 20’s as a small business owner. Later he sold his business to help build Williamsburg Learning, which operates three schools, including Leadership Academy of Utah. Currently, he is serving as a Mentor, Director of Leadership and Chief Marketing Officer.

Peter KamakawiwooleHomeschooling in Utah: The Basics, the Blueprint, and the Big Picture
Homeschooling is legal in every state, but that doesn't mean that everyone accepts it. If your decision to homeschool is challenged, knowing that your program is legal and knowing your rights is the first line of defense. HSLDA Attorney Peter Kamakawiwoole discusses how families can establish and maintain a legal homeschool program, and how state and federal laws as well as the Constitution protect you from discrimination and prosecution by state officials. Peter was born in a New England blizzard and raised in the island paradise of Hawaii, Peter is the oldest of five children, all of whom were homeschooled from kindergarten through high school. Peter was the inaugural graduate of Keolahou Christian Academy (est. 1992, by Peter and Rhonda Kamakawiwoole), where he graduated first in his class (of one), earning the honorific of “guinea pig” along the way. After high school, Peter attended Patrick Henry College where he met and married his wife, Corrie, then earned his law degree from Saint Louis University School of Law. Peter has been an HSLDA staff attorney since 2011, assisting member families in Connecticut, Nebraska, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, and his home state of Hawaii. Peter also assists families who have encountered difficulties in obtaining Social Security, veterans, and other financial benefits on account of their decision to homeschool. Finally, as a member of HSLDA’s litigation team, Peter assists in the legal defense of HSLDA member families across the country who face investigation or prosecution because of their decision to homeschool. Peter and Corrie have five children and are recent transplants to the Wild and Wonderful state of West Virginia.

Stop Shaping and Start Liberating
Many educators believe that their purpose is to shape the hearts and minds of young people. But, think about that word, “shape.” While these sentiments have good intentions, this thinking represents a fundamental flaw in the way we see education. In life “there are things that act and things that are acted upon.” When we treat young people as a “thing to be acted upon,” to be shaped, we are failing to teach that young mind and heart to think for themselves, to problem-solve, to be proactive and to create. Worldschooling, Helping Your Family Gain New Bonds and New Perspective
A few years ago my family and I decided we needed a change, so we packed up and started traveling the world. We’ve been to 33 countries, had some amazing and difficult experiences that I’d like to share with you if you’re interested in doing something similar. G’day mate! Yes, you guessed it, I am Australian. Not quite the ‘Steve Urwin Crocodile Hunter’ type, but pretty close!” I’m very excited to be the first “Aussie” mentor for Williamsburg Learning. Growing up, I was deeply impacted by caring role models and mentors—so much so that I realized I wanted to serve others the same way for the rest of my life. After completing a Bachelor of Business & Economics and Japanese Language & Asian Studies from Monash University in Australia, I did what most people do: got a job and paid off a mortgage. After that, something changed. We needed more from life and so my wife, five children and I left Australia and began exploring the world. We have now visited 33 countries and love seeing how travel changes how they see the world.

Lucas ReynoldsHabit Revolution
Sleeping in, fingernail biting, procrastinating, pornography, anorexia, the list goes on. Habits rule our lives. Knowing how to help your child change habits can change everything. Come learn proven techniques for building the habits you want. As a skinny, (and somewhat nerdy), twelve-year-old homeschool student, Lucas read seventeen Shakespeare plays over the course of three months. As he read something changed inside of him, he discovered how much he loved grappling with challenging, but meaningful literature. Lucas began seeing Julius Caesar, Hamlet, Macbeth, Romeo & Juliet all around him. Not the actual characters, but he started seeing life-lessons from these plays unfolding all around. Since then, he gained a deep love for education which challenges students to grapple with difficult, but rewarding classics. His passion for learning and teaching through great works led him to attend three different Liberal-arts schools (George Wythe University, Southern Virginia University, and Concordia University of Portland) gaining degrees in Politics, Spanish, and a Masters of Educational Leadership. He was thrilled in 2012 to join with like-minded educators at Williamsburg Learning, and he determined to provide high-quality liberal-arts education to students around the globe.

Nephi ZufeltWealth can be for everyone; helping your kids understand money, wealth, and the future economy
Wealth really can be for everyone, but it requires learning principles of a wealth mentality. Most people didn’t learn about money as a kid, in school, or even as a young adult. They had to figure it out on their own, and now they’re not exactly sure how, or what, to teach their own kids. In this class, we will bust three of the most common myths told about wealth and give parents the resources to teach their kids how to find true wealth. Nephi is first and foremost a husband and father. Professionally, Nephi has spent the past 15 years working in the medical device industry (first as an engineer and then later as an executive and CEO), launching over 100 products that have generated hundreds of millions of dollars, co-authoring 5 international patents, and leading and mentoring individuals and large teams alike. Nephi has travelled all over the world leading teams, negotiating contracts and deals, and working with government regulatory agencies and manufacturing facilities. As fun as this has been, his true passion lies in the area of wealth education. His ability to relate to kids and explain difficult concepts in ways they will understand makes him a powerful teacher. Nephi loves teaching wealth principles to kids, and a main joy and pride for him comes from helping kids succeed. He's not a stuffy businessman, but is relatable, on a first-name basis with everyone. He regularly teaches adults and youth in small and large gatherings about money, wealth, entrepreneurship, life balance, and personal relationships. Nephi finds that he feels most fulfilled when living his purpose in helping others change their mentality about wealth.

Boyd TuttleNew Millennial Science - Totally Harmonious with Creation
Over the last two centuries, faulty scientific theories and dogmas have become the foundation of ‘modern’ science. These are now being challenged by technology's advancing powers of observation. Scientific truths unveiled in the Universal Model reveal long-hidden natural laws that explain Nature’s workings far better than the old theories. The New Millennial Science is easy-to-understand, and parents will love learning it right along with their children. Ross Gilbert
The Advantage Of Being Outside The Box
Youth Class Description: Despite what your parents tell you, it is easy to think as a homeschooler that you’re at a disadvantage when it comes to college and career. You might wonder, can I ever fit in and make it in the real world? Come learn from this Aussie, Ross Gilbert, about the advantages of living outside the box, and how you’re better prepared from outside the box to get what you want or need from inside the box.

Lucas Reynolds
Habit Revolution
Not just for Adults. What made Michael Phelps the most decorated Olympian ever? Habits. What landed Francis “two gun” Crowley in jail? Habits. Come learn to build the habits you want and change the ones you don’t.

Braxee Ward Turn Your Crazy Dreams Into Achievable Goals
I’ve been taught my whole life that if I put my mind towards something and work hard, I can achieve anything. I wholeheartedly agree with that. For me, dreams and goals have always been separate things. Dreams were something you sometimes forgot and they get pushed to the back of your mind. Goals were things that you’re actively working towards and they’re always at the front of your mind. But what if there was a way to turn your dreams into goals so you can work towards that crazy thing you’ve been scared of? I can’t wait to tell you my story of turning my dream of going to Guatemala, into an achievable goal and how you can turn your dreams into tangible goals too! What’s up?! My name is Braxee Ward. Yeah, Tammy Ward is my mom and she’s the coolest person ever. I like to think that my sense of adventure, sassy personality and my great looks come from her. I am on a competitive ballroom team, which is honestly my favorite thing ever. I’ve even won some medals. :) Drawing is my happy place. Well, that and reading books whenever I get the chance. ;) I recently got my drivers license and boy oh boy, let me tell you. It’s such a freeing and independent feeling. I can’t wait to meet you and talk about what YOU love!!

Gareth Millsap
Bushido: Honor of the Samurai
The Ancient Samurai of Japan were men and women of honor. Whether their fight was on the battlefield, or within the chambers of their own hearts, they were able to overcome through the power that came from the harmony they walked with in their lives. In this course, we will not only take an in depth walk through history, but we will also discover how to live within the same harmony in our own lives, through the Samurai code known as Bushido. Gareth is the kind of guy that loves to hear what people think is humanly possible, just so he can find a way to prove them wrong. Whether it be Parkour, Snowboarding, Rock Climbing, or whatever it is, he aspires to do it all. He believes strongly in the principle that the only limits we have are the ones we allow to stand in front of us. He is 18 years old, and is currently preparing to serve an LDS mission, and later compete as an American Ninja Warrior.

Semira Scott, Gracious Pack, & Sydney OrtonHow to Get Involved in the Performing Arts
How do you make performing on the stage more than just a dream? Find out the stories of how three homeschooled girls found success in theatre and what you can learn from their collective experiences! In this class, you will learn how to get involved in homeschool, community, and professional theatre. You will receive tips on auditioning, being a good castmate, embracing any role, overcoming performance anxiety, paying for lessons, and handling rejection. The lives of Sydney, Semira, and Gracious have been greatly influenced by theatre and they look forward to sharing their passion with you! Semira Scott has been performing for 8 years. She’s been in multiple choirs as well as play productions. She started out performing Shakespeare’s plays and soon discovered her love for musicals! Some of her favorites are Newsies, Dear Evan Hansen, Tuck Everlasting, and Hairspray. She has a huge appreciation for the theater community and wishes to continue performing for a very long time. Some of her other hobbies are playing soccer, volleyball and singing. Semira plans to serve an LDS mission next year and has been filling her time working towards that, as well as being in Scrooge: A Christmas Carol, at Terrace Plaza Playhouse. One of her favorite things to see in a show is how the cast begins to bond as a family throughout rehearsals and the performances.
Gracious Pack has been doing community and homeschool theatre since she was 10, and she hasn't taken a break from it since! She's currently in rehearsals for her 27th and 28th shows. Some of her favorite roles have been Anne from Anne of Green Gables, Little Red Riding Hood from Into the Woods JR, Hodel from Fiddler on the Roof JR, and, her most recent performance as Jo in Little Women (a script she wrote). She's excited to play a Disney princess next month (cross that off the bucket list) as Ariel in The Little Mermaid. She's ecstatic to present at the Winter Homeschool Conference this year with some of her best friends!
Sydney Orton is passionate about the power of the arts! As an avid stage performer, she’s seen firsthand the positive impact theatre can have on an audience and the cast. Her favorite roles have included Isabelle in “Scrooge,” Woman #1 in “The Scarlet Pimpernel,” Golde in “Fiddler on the Roof,” and Ugly Duckling in “Shrek.” In her free time, you can catch Sydney dancing away in her tap shoes, singing, making memes, and performing dramatic/comedic monologues, alone, in her car. She is working towards her bachelors in Advertising at BYU. Sydney highly recommends that you check out the following musicals: Bandstand, Bright Star, Something Rotten, Daddy Long Legs, and Ragtime.

Come learn how to take your dreams and turn them into a reality by simplifying them into a vision you can see yourself in. Howdy there! I decided that I wanted to talk to you in my bio because that's more my style, doing things uniquely in a way that I understand them. That's one reason that I absolutely LOVED being homeschooled! Learning in my own way and pace. I still consider myself to be homeschooled because I decide what I'll learn. With this background I feel free to do what I want to, not having to stay within society's boring old story, “Go here, do this, learn that. Blah, blah, blah.” I'm excited to share how you can be your unique self too!
